Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between steel, aluminum, and wood doors?
Aside from price and aesthetics, these doors vary significantly in maintenance requirements. We find that steel is the most common material, and for a good reason! Steel doors are reasonably priced, available in a wide selection of materials, durable, and low maintenance. On the other hand, aluminum is low-maintenance and resistant to corrosion but less durable than its steel counterpart and can dent easily. In comparison, while wooden garage doors provide a timeless, eco-friendly solution, they also require regular maintenance, are more expensive, and are heavier than steel or aluminum.

What type of motor is best for each type of door?
Our sales team will work closely with you to determine your door's correct and most effective motor option. Often, we suggest the following motors:
Chain Drive (Ceiling Mounted) — These motors are cost-effective and great for heavy or wooden doors.
Belt Drive (Ceiling Mounted) — Belt drive motors are quieter and often paired with steel doors.
Jackshaft (wall mounted) — Our most versatile motor option, Jackshaft motors, are ideal for all types of doors ranging from light to medium-heavy applications.
*It's important to note that all motors sold and installed in California must have a battery backup.
